BOARD MEMBERS


Maryann Capursi

Maryann Capursi was appointed to the board in August 2011 and was elected on to the Board in April 2012. She is the chairperson of the Curriculum and Education Committee and the Technology Committee and she serves on the Community Relations, Special Education, and NJSBA Legislative Committees.

 

Ms. Capursi is a teacher in Jersey City Public Schools and a parent of a student attending school in Passaic. She brings her lens of parent and educator to every board meeting and strongly believes “having more parental involvement and providing before and after-school programs encourage students to be actively engaged in their school community.”

 

A graduate of New Jersey City University, Commissioner Capursi received her Bachelor of Arts and her Masters in Urban Education from the university. She also holds certifications in Elementary Education K-8 and a Teacher of English as a Second Language. Her prior teaching experience has involved teaching ESL, inclusion, and gifted and talented students. She is a strong advocate for innovative programs designed around the individual student learning experience so that all students can achieve at high levels.

 

Capursi adds, “I am very proud to be a strong and independent mother. I have high expectations for my son, and I am working to instill the morals and character so that he can grow up to become an honest and productive citizen of our community.”
