WHAT IS THE HIGHSCOPE CURRICULUM?


      1. A model of education that is based on the child development ideas of psychologist, Jean Piaget.
      2. Believes children learn best from activities that they themselves plan out, do, and reflect on.
      3. Teachers use 58 key experiences to help children make choices, solve problems and actively contribute to their own development.
      4. Teachers identify child’s developmental level in various areas by examining their strengths and accomplishments; support children’s decisions and encourage them to expand their original idea.
      5. Teachers develop children’s:
        • ability to perform different skills in arts and movement
        • knowledge of objects
        • ability to speak, do drama, and communicate with others
        • ability to work with others
        • plan use of time
        • ability to apply reasoning capacity to new situations
